Probing Misses the Board ȸ: 1,100   ۼ: 18-03-19
: Probing Misses the Board

When it comes to probing, the V-One follows a simple rule - it will only probe a location where there is a feature in the design. If the probe is missing the board, or going somewhere you didn't expect, then that means the V-One believes there is a feature to print there!

Most of the time, the V-One will catch this kind of problem - however, if the probe just barely slips off the edge of the board, your print will be compromised, and you could very possibly break a nozzle.

To ensure this doesn't happen, do the following:

  1. 1. Remove board outlines and dimensions from the copper layer. Some CAD tools will export board outlines in the copper layer. Simply choose not to include this layer in the copper layer during gerber export.
  2. 2. Choose the right board size. If your board is too small for the design, you will run into trouble. If in doubt, opt for a larger board.
  3. 3. Double check during outline step. Be conservative and allow a healthy spacing between the edge of your design and any clamps or board edges.
